2020 World Day of Prayer for Vocations

The World Day of Prayer for Vocations 2020 falls on Sunday 3rd May, Good Shepherd Sunday. The purpose of the World Day of Prayer for Vocations is to publicly fulfill the Lord’s instruction to, “Pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his harvest” (Mt 9:38; Lk 10:2).

Whilst the church recognises that everyone receives a vocation from God, be it to married life, single life, or some form of ministry, the church focuses on this day, to pray for vocations to ordained ministry (priesthood & Diaconate) and to religious life in all its forms.

Broadcast of Mass for Vocations Sunday

RTE Religious Affairs will broadcast Mass to mark this World Day of Prayer for Vocations on RTE One at 11 am. The Mass is being coordinated by Sister Moira Bergin from the National Centre for Liturgy in Maynooth and the National Vocations Office of the Irish Episcopal Conference.  The celebrant will be Most Rev Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan, Bishop of Waterford & Lismore, who is the Chair of The Council for Vocations of the Irish Catholic Bishops Conference.
