Scripture Themed Intercessions for Vocations Ordinary Time to Lent

Second Sunday of Ordinary Time

Sunday 14th January 2024
We pray for vocations: In our first reading we hear how Samuel was being called by God, but he did not recognise that it was God who was calling him. It was Eli who realised this and told Samuel to go and listen.  We pray for those whom the Lord is calling to live as a priest, deacon or religious, that they may hear and discern God’s call and respond – Here I am, Lord – I come to do your will.

Third Sunday of Ordinary Time

Sunday 21st January 2024
In our first reading Jonah immediately obeys the call of the Lord to go to Nineveh. Also, in the Gospel we see that both Simon and Andrew as well as James and John immediately respond to the call from Jesus to follow him.  We pray for those who are being called by the Lord to follow him as a priest, deacon or religious may have the trust and courage to respond to God’s call.

Fourth Sunday of Ordinary Time

Sunday 28th January 2024
The refrain of our responsorial psalm is “O that today you would listen to His voice; harden not your hearts” – We pray for those who are being called by God to give their lives in service as a priest, deacon or religious, that they may open their hearts and listen to His gentle voice whispering amidst the noise of life.

Fifth Sunday of Ordinary Time

Sunday 4th February 2024
In our Gospel, we see how Jesus makes it a priority to find a quiet place where he can pray.  We pray that those who are called by God to serve as a priest, deacon or religious, may be people of prayer – and always find time in their day to dedicate to prayer.

Sixth Sunday of Ordinary Time

Sunday 11th February 2024
We pray for vocations: St Paul in his letter to the Church community in Corinth tells them that he takes Christ as his model.  We pray for those discerning a vocation, that they will always strive to model their lives on Jesus, who is the Way, the Truth and the Life.
