Scripture Themed Intercessions for Vocations for April 2024

April 2024

Second Sunday of Easter – Divine Mercy Sunday

In our gospel today, Jesus comes and stands among the Apostles, shows them his hands and feet and tells them “As the Father sent me, so I am sending you”.  We pray today for an increase in vocations. May those who are discerning a call from the Lord in their hearts, be guided by the Holy Spirit to follow the Lord.

Third Sunday of Easter

In our Gospel passage today, we hear of the two disciples leaving Jerusalem and heading to Emmaus. It was only that evening at the breaking of bread with Jesus that they recognised him. They immediately set out to return to Jerusalem to tell the disciples.  We pray for those who recognise the call of Jesus in their lives will have the courage to set out to minister the good news to others as a priest, deacon or religious.

Fourth Sunday of Easter – Good Shepherd Sunday

Today is Good Shepherd Sunday, the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. Jesus is the one shepherd of one flock.  “I am the good shepherd; I know my own and they know me … and I will lay down my life for my sheep.”  We pray for all whom the Lord is calling to follow him as shepherds to His flock, laying down their lives in service as priests, deacons and religious, will hear his voice In their hearts.

Fifth Sunday of Easter – Good Shepherd Sunday

In the letter from St. John, he tells us that “our love is not to be just words or mere talk, but something real and active;” and in the Gospel that Jesus is the true vine and that like branches, we must always stay connected to the vine, for cut off from relationship with Jesus we can do nothing.  We pray for those who are discerning a vocation to priesthood, diaconate or religious life that they will always remain connected to Jesus the true vine, and that their love will real and active.
