Come & See Day – Maynooth 2nd May

National Vocations Office Hosts Annual ‘Come and See’ Day at St Patrick’s College, Maynooth

The National Vocations Office welcomed sixteen men from dioceses across Ireland to St Patrick’s College, Maynooth, on Saturday, 2 May, for the annual Come and See day—an initiative designed to support those discerning a possible call to diocesan priesthood.

Participants spent the day in prayer, reflection, and conversation on the theme of diocesan priesthood. The programme was led by Fr Shane O’Neill of St Patrick’s College and Bishop Phonsie Cullinan, Chair of the Council for Vocations, both of whom offered presentations on discernment and the nature of priesthood.  The gathering concluded with the celebration of Mass.

Reflecting on the significance of the event, Fr Willie Purcell, National Coordinator for Diocesan Vocations to the Priesthood, highlighted the importance of creating spaces where men can explore their vocation together. “One of the key elements of the day—and of all our Come and See days—is that they create an opportunity for men who are thinking of the priesthood to come together and share their common journey towards diocesan priesthood. This gives hope to the Church in Ireland and the realisation that God is still calling men to the priesthood.”

Carol King, Executive Secretary of the National Vocations Office, welcomed the strong engagement from participants, noting that those who attend bring “enquiring minds” and ask the questions that matter when discerning a vocation.

Bishop Phonsie Cullinan expressed his gratitude for the openness and generosity shown by the men who took part, acknowledging the courage required to explore a call to the priesthood in today’s world.

The National Vocations Office continues its mission of supporting dioceses, promoting a culture of vocation, and accompanying those who are discerning God’s call—work that remains vital as the Church in Ireland looks to the future with hope.
